Remedial Steps to Save a Life

1. IT IS A CRIME - For any person to cause you any physical injury or harm no matter who he is. Even if that person is a member or former member of your family or household or is in a dating relationship; it's still a crime.

2. TELL A POLICE OFFICER
  • If you, your child, any other household member or dating partner has been injured
  • If you feel you're going to be in danger when the officer leaves your residence or at a later time

3. YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO:
  • Ask law enforcement to file a criminal complaint against the person committing family or dating violence, sexual assault and / or stalking
  • A protective order application can be filed to prevent further harm. You cannot be charged a fee by a court in connection with the filing, serving or entering a protective order. The Crisis Center assists you in filing the protective order application for FREE of cost

4. A COURT CAN ISSUE AN ORDER THAT:
  • Prohibits the abuser from committing further acts of violence
  • Prohibits the abuser from threatening, harassing or contacting you at home or work, etc.
  • May establish temporary custody of the children
